The right email for each person
A segment is a saved set of conditions, like “bought twice in the last 90 days and lives in the UK”. It updates on its own as people act, so the right email always reaches the right group.
Conditions you can actually use
Combine any of these with all or any, and nest groups for more complex rules:
- Who they are: name, company, location, birthday or any custom property you add, like plan or total spent.
- How they subscribed: email status, source (form, import, API, integration), date added and consent date.
- Tags and lists: has a tag, is in a list, or not.
- What they did: opened, clicked, submitted a form, or any event such as Placed order, at least a number of times, within a number of days.
As you build, you see how many contacts match, so you can tell straight away whether a segment is too narrow to be worth an email.

Questions and answers
What is the difference between a list and a segment?
A list is a group people join (for example by signing up to your newsletter). A segment is a filter over all your contacts that updates itself. Use lists for what people chose and segments for what you know about them.
Can a segment start an automation?
Yes. The “Enters a segment” trigger starts a flow for each contact the moment they match, and you can choose whether people who already match are included.
Do segments update in real time?
Yes, where it matters: a segment is evaluated at the moment you send, so a campaign always reaches the people who match right then. The contact count shown in the list is refreshed every hour.
